Research Use Only — Not for Human Consumption
Melanotan II has been studied across melanocortin receptor biology and pigmentation research:
- Potent MC1R agonist — stimulates melanogenesis and eumelanin production in melanocyte cell culture models
- MC3R and MC4R activity studied in the context of energy homeostasis and appetite regulation in rodent models
- Originally developed at University of Arizona as a tool for studying UV-independent melanogenesis in vivo
- Cyclic lactam structure provides greater metabolic stability vs. linear α-MSH in preclinical studies
- Studied in sexual function research via MC4R pathway activation in animal models
Every batch is independently tested by a US-based third-party laboratory:

Melanotan II (MT-II) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analogue of α-MSH. It was developed at the University of Arizona as a research tool for studying melanocortin receptor biology without UV exposure. MT-II binds with high affinity to MC1R (driving melanogenesis), MC3R and MC4R (metabolic and sexual function pathways), and MC5R. Its cyclic lactam structure confers greater resistance to enzymatic degradation compared to linear α-MSH in preclinical studies.
Melanotan I (afamelanotide) is a linear analogue of α-MSH with high selectivity for MC1R and limited activity at other melanocortin receptors. MT-II is a cyclic analogue with broader receptor activity (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R). Afamelanotide has received regulatory approval for erythropoietic protoporphyria in some jurisdictions. MT-II remains a research compound with no approved therapeutic indication.
